An Application Service Provider (ASP) portal for automatically converting legacy 2D CAD drawings to parametric 3D models over the internet has been set up by Imagecom, Inc. The portal 2Dto3DCAD.com currently supports Mechanical Desktop, Inventor, AutoCAD, STEP AP203 and SAT. Other formats including SolidWorks are planned for future releases. When conversion are complete, the user is e-mailed a log-in to a page called My Conversions, where a VRML version of the model can be previewed without the need to download any special software or plug-ins. They have the option of accepting the model and paying for it or rejecting the model if not satisfied with the output. Average price for a conversion is said to be about $50. The 2Dto3DCAD service is the first offered on Imagecom's ASPire3D portal.
