Arlington, Texas, September 1, 2000 – Recognizing the advantages of the Application Service Provider model, Imagecom, Inc. today announced its new Internet portal named
ASPire3D.com. Imagecom plans to offer a variety of CAD applications on a pay-per-use basis on the portal. The first ASP application to be hosted on the portal is an internet-enabled version of Imagecom’s premier product – FlexiDesign™, called e-FlexiDesign. This software automatically converts 2D legacy CAD drawings to parametric feature-based 3D models. The ASP is ideal for large, medium and small companies that have large holdings of legacy CAD data that they would like to migrate to a 3D environment. By automatically recognizing features, e-FlexiDesign will allow them to easily redesign the product as well as provide a seamless integration to automated manufacturing.
“Most designers recognize the importance of moving to 3D but are very concerned about leaving behind their proprietary 2D data and starting from scratch in 3D,” said Dr. Raj Ganesan, Vice President of Development. “However, FlexiDesign, and now e-FlexiDesign provides an easy transition strategy for 2D users to move to 3D, a capability that did not exist previously.” He also added, “customer demand pattern also indicated
that they would like to convert files on an ‘as needed’ basis and the ASP model perfectly fits that pattern.”
“With ASPire3D.com, we have worked very hard to develop our own ASP infrastructure by putting together top-of-the-line, off-the-shelf components in order to provide users with a robust environment that can also operate on low bandwidth. We have a very well load-balanced server farm that is capable of performing several thousands of conversions a day,” commented Dr. Ganesan.
Dr. Venkat Devarajan, President and CEO of Imagecom said, “we will add many more web-enabled applications to our portal as well as host third party applications, thus making ASPire3D a one-stop-shop for all design and manufacturing needs. We are in the process of making several cross-linking marketing arrangements with several high impact web sites.”
Commenting on the new ASP, Mr. Joe Greco, leading MCAD analyst said, “I was first introduced to Imagecom over a year ago and was very impressed with the power of FlexiDesign. This program is a natural fit for the ASP model. ASPire3D.com, spearheaded by e-FlexiDesign is going help a lot of users deal with their 2D legacy data on an as-needed basis.”
