Arlington, TX and Concord, MA, February 1, 2001 - Three months after the official release of 2Dto3DCAD.com, the world's first automated 2D to 3D conversion ASP, ASPire3D announced today that it now offers native SolidWorks as one of the available output 3D formats. This brings the number of currently available native CAD output formats to six.
ASPire3D has already helped thousands of users around the world migrate their legacy 2D drawings to parametric feature-based 3D models. Adding support for SolidWorks will bring significant productivity benefits to the large and quickly growing SolidWorks customer base, estimated to be around 60,000 commercial seats worldwide.
Initial support will be in the SolidWorks 2000 format, with support for SolidWorks 2001 available in the spring of 2001. The SolidWorks models that are produced with ASPire3D contain parametric features that can be edited like any SolidWorks model.
ASPire3D uses its powerful, automated software FlexiDesign™ to perform the conversions over the Internet, obviating any costly interactive manual conversion by the user. Conversions performed by FlexiDesign are approximately 500-600% faster than manual methods, thereby allowing the user to concentrate on the actual design. Conversion prices range from $15 to $90 depending on the complexity, with most moderately complex parts costing about $50 per piece part. ASPire3D also provides a unique preview tool to inspect the model before the user decides to purchase it.
According to Dr. Raj Ganesan, vice president of development for ASPire3D, "From the first day we opened, we were flooded with requests for support for SolidWorks. That number has increased considerably given that the number of SolidWorks users has also grown at a rapid pace." Dr. Venkat Devarajan, President and CEO for ASPire3D added, "Since SolidWorks is primarily a 3D modeling system, SolidWorks users are especially motivated in transitioning their legacy 2D CAD drawings to SolidWorks 3D models."
Robert McGill, manager of the SolidWorks Partner Program said, "Many SolidWorks customers are relatively new to 3D solid modeling and have a legacy of thousands of 2D drawings. In many cases, these part drawings are well suited for automated conversion to 3D solids. We have found ASPire3D's ASP approach to converting 2D drawings to 3D solids to outperform other methods. We have several large customers working with ASPire3D to assist in the process of converting their existing 2D data to usable parametric 3D models."
