Problem

2D Orthographic Part Drawings:

    • Communicate notes and dimensions efficiently
    • Display reference information well
    • Control the amount of complexity and detail associated per view
    • Allows the display of concepts and non-physical interaction

3D Feature-based Part Models:

    • Tie geometry to a feature, so interaction can be localized
    • Maintain easier because mechanical properties can be tied to the part directly
    • Revise quicker because a feature change automatically will display correctly in all additional orientations
    • Allow for flexibility, surfacing and motion to show dynamic behavior

Most 2D drawing data is still critical and cannot be lost in any way while progressing to 3D.

Additionally, manual recreation is time consuming and labor intensive.

Solution

Develop tools to aide in migrating both the physical geometry and the dimensions and/or data related to that geometry.

Founded in 2001, Imagecom Inc, on the concept of developing software products that can interact to overcome problems

associated with the transitioning from older ‘legacy’ 2D mechanical part drawings to 3D feature-based part models.
